This is a bracket style sudden-death format. Each round, competitors will produce a single free-pour drink for the judges (no etching, tools, powders, etc. - just milk and espresso). The three judges will score the drinks and on the count of three point to the drink they find most impressive. The competitor with two (or more) votes will move on and the loser is eliminated. All judging will be done blind.
Competitors will have their choice of pouring into an 8oz/12oz notNeutral Lino coffee cup (supplied by Pettibone). Competitors are encouraged to bring their own milk pitcher but barista hustle pitchers will also be supplied should a competitor not have their own.
Each drink will be poured with Woodruff farms whole milk. Espresso will be pulled at 7 bars 18g dose / 36g yield at 25s. Espresso will be made by a competition staff member.
Drinks will be scored by the following criteria:
- Speed
- Balance/Symmetry
- Color Distribution
- Line Clarity
- Creativity/Difficulty
- Execution
At the start:
Each competitor must start with an empty milk pitcher. Cups can be staged but the saucers will stay under the camera
The two competitors will have 100 seconds to pour and submit one drink.
Each competitor is only allowed to pour one drink and must walk their drink from the espresso machine to the judging station under the camera.
Your drink must be on the saucer under the camera before the 100 second timer is done.
If your drink is not on the saucer before the 100 second timer is done, your opponent will automatically move on and you will be eliminated.
For the final round, the two finalist will produce one drink according to all of the above rules. However, they will instead have a 150s timer and be able to pour as many drinks as they like. They must have one drink on the saucer under the camera before the 150s timer is up or they will automatically lose.
1st place prize: $2,000 cash plus swag
2nd place prize: $500 cash plus swag and equipment
3rd place prize : Swag and equipment
